- Those wishing to change courses must satisfy the minimum subject requirements for their preferred programme
- Those who had not previously applied can now submit late applications for available degree courses.
- The system will open for continual TVET applications before the end of the year, targeting anyone who sat the KCSE examination between 2000 and 2025
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its inter-institutional transfer portal, giving students already placed in universities and colleges a chance to apply for a switch to their preferred institutions.
According to a notice issued on Wednesday, July 15, the online system will remain open for 30 days from the date of the announcement. “The KUCCPS online system is open for Inter-Institutional Transfer Application for 30 days from today, July 15, 2026,” the notice read.
KUCCPS said applicants pursuing a transfer may either retain the course they were initially placed in or apply to switch to a different programme altogether, provided they meet the requirements.
Those wishing to change courses must satisfy the minimum subject requirements for their preferred programme and attain the required weighted cluster points for that course at the receiving institution, the placement agency noted. It further stated that any transfer application must be approved by the heads of both the releasing institution and the receiving institution before it can be processed.
“To initiate the process, you must submit your application online through your KUCCPS Student’s Portal, www.students.kuccps.ac.ke, and pay a transfer application fee of Ksh1,000 following the procedure outlined on the portal,” KUCCPS stated.
KUCCPS also announced that candidates who qualified for university admission but missed out on degree programmes due to competition for slots, as well as those who had not previously applied, can now submit late applications for available degree courses.
The placement agency further urged students seeking government scholarships and HELB loans to channel their applications through the official Higher Education Financing (HEF) portal.

On technical and vocational training, KUCCPS said its system will open for continual TVET applications before the end of the year, targeting anyone who sat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination between 2000 and 2025. “If you are considering pursuing a non-degree technical course, the KUCCPS system will open for continual TVET applications before the end of the year,” the notice stated.
The developments follow the release of the 2026 university placement results, with KUCCPS confirming it has already submitted the placement details of successful applicants to their respective universities, which are now responsible for issuing official admission letters and joining instructions.
“KUCCPS expects universities to contact newly placed students and advise them on how to access their admission letters. If you have not heard from your university, reach out to the institution, or check its website for information on admission procedures,” the Placement Service said.
