The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has asked the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to prioritize intern teachers when they start the second round of teacher recruitment next year (2024).
According to the general secretary of the union, Collins Oyuu, field teachers have acquired sufficient knowledge and are ready to perform their duties in the classroom.
In addition, this union has called on the government to fully address the interests of teachers while criticizing some teachers’ unions for inciting teachers to protest for permanent employment.
“Given the fact that these teachers have served well and with distinction, the commission should convert them to permanent and pensionable terms upon expiry of their internship period,” Oyuu stated.
