The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Transmara Branch has welcomed the lifting of the curfew in Transmara South sub county , terming it a major step towards restoring peace and normalcy after prolonged inter-community clashes that disrupted life in the area for over two months.

Speaking to residents, KNUT Transmara Secretary Willy Korir said the decision to lift the curfew was timely and reflected the improved security situation on the ground.

He noted that sustained dialogue and a series of peace meetings involving leaders, elders and residents from the two affected communities had played a key role in easing tensions and rebuilding trust.

Korir observed that the clashes had negatively impacted education, with many learners forced to stay away from school due to insecurity and fear among parents.

With calm now prevailing, he urged parents and guardians to allow their children to return to school without hesitation.

“Education should not be a casualty of conflict. Now that peace has been restored, learners must resume their studies so that lost time can be recovered,” Korir said.

He also commended security agencies, local administrators and peace committees for their collaborative efforts in stabilizing the region.

According to the KNUT official, teachers are ready to support learners emotionally and academically as schools reopen fully.

Residents have expressed cautious optimism saying the lifting of the curfew has eased movement and revived economic activities that had been stalled by the unrest.

Korir called on the communities to maintain peace, embrace dialogue and resolve disputes amicably to prevent a recurrence of violence.

He emphasized that lasting peace is essential for sustainable development, quality education and harmonious coexistence in Transmara South.
