The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) will hold Special Delegates Conference (SDC) on April 3, 2026, at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu City.

In an official circular issued by Secretary General Collins Henry Oyuu, the Union further directed all its branches countrywide to immediately begin preparations for the upcoming conference, signaling the start of an important constitutional process within the union.

According to Oyuu, the conference will primarily focus on conducting KNUT’s national elections.

The communication instructs Branch Executive Committees (BECs) to convene properly constituted meetings to appoint delegates in strict adherence to the KNUT Constitution.

The move underscores the union’s emphasis on procedural compliance and internal democracy.

Nominations and registration of delegates are scheduled for April 2, 2026, a day before the conference. Delegate allocation slots for each branch are expected to be communicated in due course.

The announcement follows resolutions made during the National Executive Council meeting held in December 2025, alongside guidance from the Registrar of Trade Unions.

The Special Delegates Conference is a key decision-making organ of the union and plays a central role in shaping KNUT’s leadership and policy direction.

The outcome of the April meeting is expected to influence the union’s engagement with education stakeholders, particularly on matters affecting teachers’ welfare and representation.

As preparations begin across the country, branches are now racing against time to finalize their delegate lists ahead of the Kisumu gathering.
