The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has exempted its Nairobi Branch from holding the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) due to the branch’s extensive workload ahead of the upcoming Annual Delegates Conference (ADC).

In an official communication dated October 6, 2025, Secretary General Collins Henry Oyuu acknowledged receipt of a request from the Nairobi Branch Executive Secretary and confirmed that the union had reviewed the branch’s commitments and ongoing activities.

According to the letter, the national office recognized the numerous engagements the branch is currently undertaking as it prepares for the 2025 ADC. The union leadership noted that these activities require significant planning and coordination, prompting the exemption.

“We have observed your branch commitments and the many activities that your branch endeavors to undertake before our forthcoming Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) 2025,” Oyuu stated.

He added that the exemption aims to allow the Nairobi Branch ample time to focus on its preparations and ensure seamless execution of all programs without disruption.

The Secretary General further expressed confidence in the branch’s capacity to continue running its operations effectively, urging the leadership to plan ahead for all scheduled programs.

“We therefore exempt you from holding this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and pray that your branch will prepare well in advance for all branch activities and programs which should continue uninterrupted,” the letter read.

The National Chairman and National Treasurer were copied into the communication, signaling full approval from the union’s top leadership.

The exemption means the Nairobi Branch will not conduct its AGM for the year 2025 but will continue with all other union activities as planned.
