The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Marakwet branch has raised the alarm over rising cases of fraud targeting teachers seeking employment with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Speaking during the burial of a teacher in Soiyo, Marakwet West, KNUT Marakwet Branch Executive Secretary Salome Kiplagat said over 15 teachers in the region have already fallen victim to the scam.
“These are desperate teachers looking for employment, and they are being conned by an organized web out to fleece them,” Kiplagat said. She urged teachers and the public to be cautious and to verify all information regarding TSC recruitment.
Kiplagat called on government agencies, especially the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), to launch a manhunt for the group behind the fraudulent schemes.

“We are calling on the government to rein in these culprits. We cannot sit back as our teachers are robbed of their hard-earned money by fraudsters posing as TSC officials,” she added.
The unionist warned that conmen are exploiting job seekers by demanding money in exchange for fake appointment letters and promises of TSC jobs. She emphasized that TSC jobs are not for sale and recruitment is done transparently.
She urged affected teachers to report to the union offices or to the police to aid investigations.
