The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has called on parents and guardians across the country to confirm the registration status of their children for the 2026 national examinations ahead of the April 30 deadline.

In a public notice released this week, the council asked parents to verify their child’s details for the 2026 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), or Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). The confirmation process requires parents to send the learner’s Assessment Number or Index Number via SMS to 20076.

KNEC stated that the verification exercise is intended to ensure accuracy in candidate data and to prevent errors that could compromise examination records, certification or results processing. Parents are expected to carefully review the spelling and order of their child’s names, gender, date of birth, the school in which the learner is registered, and the citizenship status indicated as either citizen or non-citizen.

The council also emphasized the importance of confirming subject entries. For candidates sitting KPSEA and KJSEA, parents should verify whether the learner is registered for Kiswahili or Kenyan Sign Language (KSL), as well as the chosen Religious Education subject—Christian Religious Education (CRE), Islamic Religious Education (IRE), or Hindu Religious Education (HRE). KCSE candidates are required to confirm their optional subjects to avoid discrepancies that may affect grading or certification.

Education stakeholders note that mistakes in candidate registration details can lead to complications during examination administration and the issuance of certificates. In previous years, some candidates have faced delays in correcting personal information due to late verification, highlighting the importance of early action.

KNEC has advised parents and guardians experiencing challenges during the confirmation process to seek assistance from their respective Heads of Institution.

The council reiterated that the deadline for confirmation is April 30, 2026, urging families not to wait until the last minute.

As preparations for the 2026 national examinations gather momentum, the council says the verification exercise is a critical safeguard to protect candidates’ academic records and ensure a smooth examination process nationwide.
