Kisumu teachers brace for strike as they warn union they want nothing less

Secondary school teachers from Kisumu County have vowed to join their colleagues across the country in Monday’s strike over varied grievances.

Through the Executive Secretary Zablon Awange of KUPPET, the tutors say they are going for nothing other than what is due to them.

Awange warned the national officials not to succumb to pressures to withdraw the industrial action.

Speaking in Kisumu, Awange said the teachers will march from Kondele and later present a petition to the regional education offices.

“We are on the ground and teachers are charged up and ready for war. We warn principals who have called staff meetings on Monday to call them off,” he said, suggesting that the National Governing Council meeting tomorrow should have only one message: Don’t disappoint teachers.

Awange told the National Executive Board that Kisumu teachers expect all conditions to be fulfilled by midnight 25th August, saying any betrayal will not be accepted.
