Kisumu County Commissioner Mohamed Ramadhan has urged learning institutions within the county to install security surveillance systems to enhance the safety of learners.
Ramadhan said CCTV cameras would play a vital role in improving security in schools and help avert tragedies such as the recent incident at Utumishi Girls School.
Speaking during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Joel Omino Senior School, Ramadhan said all schools should install CCTV cameras as part of measures aimed at strengthening security.
He noted that the safety of students is paramount, hence the need for institutions to adopt such measures.
Visit learning institutions
Ramadhan said the county security team would visit learning institutions across the county to ensure compliance.
The official further stated that CCTV monitors should be placed in appropriate locations and managed by designated personnel.

“I have seen such gadgets placed in the offices of school principals, and that is wrong,” he said.
Ramadhan emphasized that the systems should be monitored by the right personnel to ensure effectiveness.
Earlier, the County Commissioner warned criminals who have been terrorizing members of the public that security agencies were pursuing them.
