Preparations are complete for the retirement ceremony of David Ogega Ogeturengia, the Chief Principal of Nyabisase DEB Secondary School, with thousands of guests expected to gather today, June 30, to celebrate his four-decade career in education.
Nyamache town has witnessed an influx of visitors since the weekend, as former students, teachers, parents, education stakeholders and well-wishers from across the country and abroad arrived ahead of the event.
Accommodation facilities in the town have reportedly reached full capacity, with hotel and guest house operators saying demand for rooms has exceeded supply.
“All our rooms were fully booked by Saturday afternoon, and we have had to turn away many guests,” said one hotel manager in Nyamache.
The increased number of visitors has also boosted business activities, with traders, restaurants and transport operators recording brisk business. Hawkers lined major streets selling flowers, gifts, school memorabilia and other items, while boda boda operators and matatu services experienced heightened demand.
At Nyabisase DEB Secondary School, the venue has been transformed for the occasion, with tents erected, decorations completed and entertainment groups putting final touches on their performances. Students have been rehearsing songs, poems and traditional dances to honour the outgoing principal.
