Kisii Poly unveils programme that incorporates climate change mitigation

Kisii National Polytechnic has unveiled an elaborate plan to incorporate all stakeholders in their new academic programme that integrates climate change mitigation.

Addressing hospitality graduates, Chief Principal Tom Mulati said conservation of the environment is inseparable from the prosperity of the hotel industry and tourism.

He asked hotel owners and their staff to embrace the habit of planting trees for the beautification of the environment, its conservation and preservation for the future generations.

He thanked the Kenya Tourism Fund for choosing to partner with the institution for the advancement of education by training hotel staff who are eager to update their professional skills.

“We have given you timeless quality skills that will assist you to stand relevant as you serve your customers in the hospitality industry,” he said.

Tourism Fund Chairman Samuel Some took the public through the roles of Kenya Tourism Fund and asked them to support it by remitting money for its continuity.

“We depend on the 2 per cent revenue collection from hotels and I ask you to support us through improved collection of the money,” he said.

Western Region Tourism Fund Manager Enock Chebii said that the organization was advanced in the development of its website that will keep the public informed about the new tourism revolving fund to enable them benefit from it.

Kisii County Tourism CECM Silas Nyabicha and Kisii National Polytechnic Principal Tom Mulati cut the cake to celebrate the event of incorporating conservation in their curriculum.

He told the 114 pioneer graduates of the course to go to the outside world and be ambassadors of the industry because they had been empowered with appropriate knowledge.

“Go and teach others in all towns because knowledge is not meant for monopoly but it should shine like a lamp placed on a hill to impact many people,” he said.

Kisii County Governor Simba Arati reiterated his government’s effort to support the hospitality industry.

In a speech read on his behalf by CECM for Tourism and Trade Silas Nyabicha, Arati said that Kisii County Government has created a special department to give tourism development the full attention for prosperity.

In the prelude to the colourful graduation, the graduands were led to plant 1,000 trees.
