Education fraternity and residents of Bomet County are mourning the death of a secondary school teacher who was killed in a tragic road accident in Litein, Kericho County.

Mercy Chepngeno, a teacher at Kaminjejiwet Secondary School in Litein and an alumna of Koibeyon Secondary School, died following the accident that occurred on the evening of June 24, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m.
The education fraternity and residents of Bomet County are mourning the death of a secondary school teacher who was killed in a tragic road accident in Litein, Kericho County.
Mercy Chepngeno, a teacher at Kaminjejiwet Secondary School in Litein and an alumna of Koibeyon Secondary School, died following the accident that occurred on the evening of June 24, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m.
In a statement issued with the consent of her family, the Koibeyon Alumni Association described Chepngeno’s death as a great loss to her family, colleagues, former classmates, students and the wider community.
Chepngeno joined Koibeyon Secondary School under admission number 1369 and graduated with the Class of 2018. She was remembered as a cheerful, friendly and dedicated student whose warm personality endeared her to peers and teachers alike.

During her time at the school, she actively participated in the Music Club, where she was known for her enthusiasm and vibrant character.
She later pursued a Bachelor of Education in English and Literature at Maasai Mara University before joining Kaminjejiwet Secondary School as a teacher, where she served until her untimely death.
The alumni association praised her commitment to education, kindness and the positive impact she had on learners and those who interacted with her.
In the statement signed by Alumni Association Secretary Caren Chepkirui, the association conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family.
“We pray that God grants the family strength, comfort and peace during this difficult time,” the statement read.
The family is expected to announce funeral and burial arrangements in due course.
