Kisii police investigate tragic death of one-year-old child in Kiogoro

Homa

The Kisii police have launched an investigation into the tragic death of a one-year-old child in Kiogoro, Sameta Subcounty.

Reportedly, the child’s parents entrusted him with the care of his younger sibling while they attended a neighbor’s overnight funeral vigil.

Upon their return the next morning, they were shocked to discover their lifeless child in bed.

The local Chief, John Ondande, suspected suffocation, speculating that the older siblings sharing the bed might have inadvertently caused it during their deep sleep.

Chief Ondande held the parents responsible for negligence and warned that they could face legal action for child abuse if found guilty.

The child’s body was taken to Ogembo Subcounty Hospital Mortuary for preservation, pending police investigation and burial arrangements.

In response to this tragic incident, former Gucha Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Secretary, Isaiah Nyariki, urged parents to stay close to their children, especially during the rainy season.

He advised providing warm clothing to protect against cold-related illnesses and maintaining clean compounds to prevent diseases carried by insects like mosquitoes, such as malaria.
