  • Parents of Riondong’a Comprehensive School in Nyaribari Constituency have appealed to MP Zaheer Jhanda to address long-standing infrastructure challenges through NG-CDF support.
  • They cited dilapidated classrooms, unsafe sanitation facilities, lack of fencing, and absence of a dining hall, saying the poor conditions are affecting learning and learner safety.

Parents from Riondong’a Comprehensive School in Nyaribari Constituency, Kisii County have appealed to area Member of Parliament (MP) Zaheer Jhanda to intervene, saying the institution; one of the oldest in the area, has never received support from the NG-CDF office.

Speaking during a parents’ meeting held at the school on Tuesday, June 17, the parents expressed appreciation to the MP for the face-lifting of the Keumbu–Nyantirago road, noting that it has improved transport and communication for pupils, teachers, farmers, and traders.

However, they raised concern over the deteriorating state of the school, warning that it is endangering learners and affecting academic performance.

“The roof in several classrooms is dilapidated and leaks whenever it rains. Our pit latrines are sagging and unsafe, the school has no dining hall, and the compound is unfenced, exposing pupils to insecurity,” said Board Chairman James Mogire.

School Headteacher Kalvin Ochora echoed the concerns, saying the lack of basic infrastructure is making it difficult to provide a safe and conducive learning environment.

“Riondong’a is one of the oldest schools in Nyaribari, yet we have been left behind. We are calling on Hon. Zaheer Jhanda and the NG-CDF office to consider us in the next funding cycle,” Ochora said.

The parents further pledged to work closely with the school administration and the MP’s office to ensure any funds allocated are used transparently for the benefit of learners.

Riondong’a Comprehensive School serves hundreds of pupils from surrounding villages, many of whom come from low-income families that cannot afford private education.
