Kisii County Govt establishes special unit to fight alcoholism and drug menace among students

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has unveiled a new security reinforcement unit to curb the sale and use of illicit alcohol and drugs in the county.

Kisii County Government has introduced a special unit of security reinforcement officers to fight the sale and use of illicit alcohol and drugs in the region.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati says that his office has discovered that many students in both Universities and secondary schools are recruited into drug trafficking activities by some rogue police officers who use their positions to transport the stuff from one part of the Country to another.

“Some of our police officers who are supposed to be custodians of security are involved in these dirty activities without knowing that they are killing the present and future generations.”He said.

In an exclusive address to Education News, Arati confirmed that the newly formed force unit by his office will work hand in hand with Kisii County Administration and the regular police under the leadership and supervision of Kisii County Commissioner Joseph Kibet to eliminate the vice.

“Haya ndiyo mapambano nimeapa kukumbana nayo (This is the fight I have vowed to take on against lawbreakers),he said.

Arati asked parents to take care of their children during this long holiday to prevent them from being recruited into those dubious activities.

He asked church organisations to draft programmes targeting youths, focusing on the emerging problems they face, and to involve them in solving those problems through structured religious and parental guidance and counselling.
