KICD honours top performers as Nyanza regional music festival ends

  • KICD has honoured outstanding performers with trophies as the 2026 Nyanza Regional Kenya Music Festival concluded at Nyabururu Girls’ Secondary School in Kisii County on Sunday, July 5.
  • KICD said the gesture reflects its continued support for the implementation of the CBC, particularly the Arts and Sports Science Pathway, by promoting learners’ creativity, innovation and talent development through co-curricular activities.

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) honoured outstanding performers with trophies as the 2026 Nyanza Regional Kenya Music Festival concluded at Nyabururu Girls’ Secondary School in Kisii County on Sunday, July 5, underscoring its commitment to nurturing learners’ talents under the Competency-Based Education (CBE).

The trophies were presented to the Executive Secretary of the Kenya Music Festival (KMF) Nyanza Region, Wycliffe Odhiambo, by Dr. Samwel Obudho, Senior Deputy Director for TVET, on behalf of the Chief Guest, KICD CEO Prof. Charles Ong’ondo.

The donation came at a crucial time, ensuring that deserving winners in various categories received trophies after a potential shortfall.

KICD said the gesture reflects its continued support for the implementation of the CBC, particularly the Arts and Sports Science Pathway, by promoting learners’ creativity, innovation and talent development through co-curricular activities.

The festival showcased exceptional performances from schools across the region. Oneno Comprehensive School earned special recognition from adjudicators for its entertaining and educative sacred folk song, Singo.

Schools that qualified to represent Nyanza Region at the national music festival under the KICD-sponsored classes include Nyakach Girls, which topped Class 2131K, Gesiaga Senior School, which emerged best in Class 2031K, and Kuja Special School, which led Class 3031K.

Other notable performances came from Wire Mixed Senior School, which topped Class 431 (Mixed Voices Set Piece), and Gendia Boys, which emerged the best in Class 485 (Folk Song with Sacred Text).

The colourful festival concluded with congratulations to all participating learners, teachers and schools for their dedication and contribution to promoting excellence in music and the performing arts.
