A Kibera court has sentenced a man to 20 years imprisonment for the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl.
Presiding over the case, Principal Magistrate Murage found the accused guilty after the prosecution, led by Michael Mutune, presented a compelling case with six witnesses.
Their testimonies detailed how the man committed the assault while the girl’s mother was away from home, working casual jobs to support her family.
The court noted the convict had previously been released on bond but absconded from his trial in February 2024, causing significant delays until he was eventually re-arrested.
In delivering the sentence, Magistrate Murage underscored the predatory nature of the crime, stating that the 20-year term was intended to serve as a serious deterrent to others who would prey on children.
