Kesogon Mixed Secondary School from Rift Valley are the new Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national girls’ volleyball champions after defeating Nairobi Region’s Soweto Academy 3-0 in the final played on Thursday at M-Pesa Foundation Academy in Thika.
Kesogon produced a commanding display to win in straight sets of 25-13, 25-10 and 25-18, capping an impressive campaign that saw them dethrone the country’s volleyball giants.
The victory marked a sweet moment of redemption for the Rift Valley champions, who had endured three years of frustration against Kwanthanze Girls.
During that period, Kwanthanze repeatedly denied Kesogon the national crown and went on to dominate both the national and East Africa championships.
This time, however, Kesogon turned the tables. In Wednesday’s semi-final, they stunned the outgoing national and East Africa champions, Kwanthanze, 3-0 to book their place in the final and end their rivals’ reign.
Against Soweto, Kesogon wasted no time in asserting their authority. Kesogon controlled the opening set with powerful attacks and solid blocking, then completely overwhelmed the Nairobi side in the second set.
Although Soweto improved in the third set, Kesogon remained composed, sealing the match in straight sets and sparking wild celebrations.
Soweto had earned their place in the final after another dominant performance, eliminating Western Region champions St Martha’s Mwitoti 3-0 in the other semi-final.

Kesogon’s triumph not only crowns them as the 2026 national champions but also completes a remarkable journey of perseverance after years of falling short against Kwanthanze.
The victory also earns the Rift Valley champions the honour of representing Kenya at the forthcoming East Africa Secondary Schools Games, where they will seek to extend their dominance beyond the national stage.
