- FEASSSA organisers have released draws for the 2026 hockey, handball and basketball competitions in Morogoro.
- Kenyan schools have been placed in group stages against established teams from Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
- Kenyan coaches have turned their attention to final preparations ahead of the opening fixtures.
Kenyan secondary schools have been handed a stern test at the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Morogoro, Tanzania, after draws for the hockey, handball and basketball competitions pitted the country’s representatives against some of the region’s most established school teams from Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
The draws set the stage for a keenly contested battle for East African schools’ supremacy, with Kenyan sides required to navigate tough group-stage assignments across all three disciplines before they can progress to the knockout rounds.
Hockey Draws Set Up Tough Group Battles
Kenya will field teams in both the boys’ and girls’ hockey competitions. In the boys’ category, Friends School Kamusinga has been placed in Group A alongside Arusha Meru of Tanzania and Uganda’s Namilyango College and Kakungulu Memorial School. St Anthony’s Boys will play in Group B against Mbarara High School and Ntare School, both of Uganda, and Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania.
In the girls’ competition, Kenya will be represented by Ng’iya Girls and St Joseph’s Girls Kitale. Ng’iya Girls has been drawn in Group A alongside Mt. St. Mary’s College of Uganda, Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania and St Joseph’s Girls Kitale, while Group B comprises Nyamira Girls of Kenya, Arusha Meru of Tanzania, and Uganda’s Gayaza High School and Kakungulu Memorial School.

Handball Sides Drawn Against Regional Rivals
In boys’ handball, St Joseph’s Boys Kitale has been placed in Group B alongside Wampeewo Ntaake Secondary School of Uganda, Tanzania’s Maweni Secondary School and Kilombero Secondary School, and GS Tabagwe of Rwanda. Group A features Kenyan sides Matutu Secondary School and Musingu Boys, alongside Uganda’s Gombe Secondary School and Mbogo Mixed Secondary School, and Kikuyu Secondary School of Tanzania.
The girls’ handball category will see Kenya represented by Moi Girls Kamusinga, Nyakach Girls and St Joseph’s Kitale. Moi Girls Kamusinga and Nyakach Girls have been drawn in Group A alongside Kikuyu Secondary School of Tanzania and Uganda’s Wampeewo Ntaake and Kawanda Secondary School. St Joseph’s Kitale will play in Group B against Kibuli and Gombe secondary schools of Uganda, and Kikomero and Ibababa secondary schools of Tanzania.
Basketball Teams Face Stern Test Too
In the boys’ 5×5 basketball competition, Friends School Kamusinga has been drawn in Group B alongside Amus College School of Uganda, and Tanzania’s St Jude and Juhudi. Group A features St Michael High School and St Cyprian High School of Uganda, ITS Kigali of Rwanda, Nsumba of Tanzania and Kenya’s Luikena School.
In the girls’ 5×5 basketball category, Kaya Tiwi will compete in Group A against St Mary’s Boarding Secondary School and Nabisunsa Girls School of Uganda, Uru Community of Tanzania and ESB Kamonyi of Rwanda. Butere Girls has been placed in Group B alongside Orkeeswa and Rungwa of Tanzania, and St Noa Girls Secondary School of Uganda.

Kenya Eyes Regional Honours
The FEASSSA Games will allow Kenyan teams to measure themselves against some of the best secondary school sporting talent in East Africa, with the group-stage matches expected to be fiercely contested across all disciplines. Kenyan contingents will be looking for positive results from their opening fixtures to boost their chances of advancing to the knockout stages.
The Morogoro championships are expected to provide a high-level platform for young athletes to showcase their talent, with Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda set to battle for honours across hockey, handball and basketball. Kenyan coaches will now turn their attention to final preparations, with tactical execution, squad discipline and consistency expected to be crucial as the teams look to translate their domestic success into FEASSSA glory.
