The Coast Region Games entered the second day today in Malindi with the semi-finals games that were scheduled to take place in the in the afternoon.
The opening matches saw big wins for sports giants as Kaya Tiwi thrashed Ngala Girls 94-04 in their pool A basketball game. They went on to wallop Mwasere 105-6 to lead in their pool. St John’s Kaloleni fought to a slim 32-22 win over Matuga.

In boys’ basketball, defending champions Dr Aggrey easily won against Agha Khan Academy from Mombasa 66-18 in their pool A opening game. The champions also thrashed Kwale’s representative Mvindeni 93-08. Timbila in the other pool easily saw off the hosts Malindi High 62-31.
In boys’ handball, a strong Mwangea side from Taita Taveta thrashed Menzamwenye 26-12 as Jaribuni got a 22-11 win over Ndura. A resilient Dungicha Girls team fought to a 23-10 win over Shimba Hills as Mwatate Day edged out Kaya Tiwi 20-19.
There was great display of talent in the rugby field as Oda fought to a 8-nil win over Shimba Hills. Timbila faltered against Marafa, losing 15-0 while Shimo la Tewa edged out Waa Boys 6-3.
Further afield, no athletics records have been broken on the first day of athletics action as 2010/2011 records remain unbroken.
Action continues today as Kaya Tiwi meets St. John’s Kaloleni in the first basketball girls’ semi-final. Agha Khan Academy will play against Mwasere in the second semi-final.
