The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB) have strike a deal aimed at equipping young people with both technical and professional skills to enhance their employability.

Speaking during the launch of KASNEB Revision Guides at a Consultative Forum for Centres of Excellence and Accredited Training Institutions at Eldoret National Polytechnic, TVET Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Muoria said the collaboration would help bridge the gap between technical training and professional qualifications.

Dr. Muoria noted that integrating KASNEB’s accounting, entrepreneurship, and management programmes into TVET curricula would enable graduates to leave institutions with a broader skill set that combines practical expertise with business and leadership competencies.

“We are pleased to work with KASNEB so that learners can graduate with technical skills as well as entrepreneurial and management competencies, making them more competitive in the job market,” she said.

The PS revealed that the government is working to align professional business training with practical technical programmes offered in TVET institutions nationwide to improve learning outcomes and workforce readiness.

She added that KASNEB is currently reviewing its syllabus and learning materials to facilitate the integration process and ensure a seamless link between technical and professional training.

Dr. Muoria commended Eldoret National Polytechnic, one of the 11 national polytechnics partnering with KASNEB, for its role in piloting the initiative, saying the institutions would be instrumental in rolling out the programme across the country.

She also highlighted the importance of micro-credentials, describing them as modular learning units that allow students to progressively acquire skills and qualifications.

“A micro-credential is a small portion of a programme that can be stacked progressively until a learner attains a full qualification,” she explained.

The PS expressed concern that Kenya has not sufficiently invested in targeted skills training and stressed the need to equip learners with specialised competencies that meet international standards and industry demands.

According to Dr. Muoria, developing a highly skilled workforce capable of adapting quickly to changing workplace needs will enhance productivity and strengthen Kenya’s competitiveness in the global economy.

She urged trainers, students, and institutions to fully utilise the newly launched revision guides as resources for professional development and career advancement.

KASNEB Independent Director Samantha Kipury welcomed the reforms, noting that the revised syllabus places greater emphasis on practical skills and learner empowerment rather than solely academic achievement.

“Our goal is not only to produce skilled graduates but also empowered individuals who can contribute meaningfully to national development,” said Kipury.

She described the revised curriculum as a balanced approach that combines theory and practical application to provide learners with a comprehensive educational experience.
