The Bomet University Students’ Organisation (BUSO) has distanced itself from a circulating notice calling on students to participate in a demonstration and the total shutdown of county offices.
In a memorandum dated September 13, 2026, BUSO Secretary General Obala Francis said the recognised student leadership was neither aware of nor involved in preparing or authorising the document. Obala said the source and authenticity of the notice had not been established, urging students to disregard it and rely only on official communication from the university administration and recognised student leaders.
The student leadership also raised concerns that those behind the plans might be trying to use students to advance personal interests. It also cited reports of possible goons being organised to disrupt or attack students who might participate in the proposed demonstration, although it stressed that the reports had not been independently verified.
“We therefore strongly caution all comrades against participating in the proposed demonstration,” the memorandum stated.

BUSO warned that any student who chooses to participate would do so at their own risk, adding that the university might not assume responsibility for injuries, losses or other consequences arising from participation in an unauthorised demonstration.
The organisation declared the circulating document “null and void,” reiterating that the recognised student leadership had no role in its preparation or authorisation. It urged students to remain calm, prioritise their safety and follow official communication from the university administration and recognised student leadership.
