Kakamega MP warns against closure of children’s refuge homes

Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has warned the government against closure of orphanages and children’s homes as there even need for more.

Speaking during the World Street Children’s Day, Muhanda said the government should not close them, but instead construct more so that children get their rights as stated in the constitution.
Muhanda joins street children in a performance to mark their day.

She warned those who abuse and mistreat street children, pointing out that all belong to the society and need to be loved.

She lauded St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kakamega for coordinating with the children’s department to take street children back to school in Vihiga and Kakamega counties.

At the same time, she expressed concerns over the doctors’ strike, saying that dialogue should be embraced to sort out the contentious issues with the government.
