Kakamega woman representative Elsie Muhanda has called on parents to monitor their children movement as the April holidays commences
The calls is to ensure that the parents minimizes cases of dearly pregnancies and other irresponsible sexual behavior among learners.
The leader who is sponsoring young mothers back to school initiative which has seen teen mothers resume learning after delivery warned parents against letting loose their children to visit relatives without proper arrangements, as it was one of the loopholes the girls get pregnant either through consent or even raped by relatives or unknown people leaving them to become young mothers and interrupting their education.

She called on the parents and guardians of young girls to be so cautious of their movements especially during this holiday season and not let them roam about freely as it was one way of them getting into mischief.
”Through the national government affirmative action fund (NGAAF) we have rescued over 600 young mothers and taken them back to school out of which 35 are now graduates.
She added that as they grapple with the issue of teen pregnancies within the county, let parents be on the forefront in assisting to instill discipline in teenager girls by assigning them duties while at home especially this season of planting and weeding.
“Let them assist you with home cores instead of setting them free and allowing them to roam the whole holiday only for them to get back to school pregnant with many not even knowing who us responsible,” she cautioned.
She pointed out that the county was among the leading in teen pregnancies and observed that good moral upbringing was the only solution to end the vice.
At the same time, she called on all the teen mothers who are still interested to get education to reach out through her wards point persons noting that women empowerment could only be realized by sending as many girls to school as possible.
“My initiative to take young mothers to school has so far been a success story as we have seen and heard living testimonies from the girls themselves on how beneficial returning to class has been and we will continue to assist them get education and be able to support their young ones and families as well” she concludes.
