Kakamega eternal soccer rivals fire warning shots as they qualify for county contests

Shanderema boys celebrate a goal in last year's competitions when they fell a triffle short of the national title. They have qualified for the county championship alongside Kakamega High and Chebuyusi.

Eternal rivals Shanderema, Kakamega and Chebuyusi High schools are the highlights of the qualifiers for the county championship in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) soccer, Western Region chapter.

On Saturday, Shanderema High, the defending champions of the western Region KSSSA games, whipped Lunyu High School 5-1 to cement its reign in the concluded Kakamega East Sub-county competition which was held on its home ground.

Arnest Omondi who is in an infallible form was on the score sheet four times, with Collins Kati closing the account with the fifth goal. Griffins Matunda scored the lone goal for Lunyu High.

On the other hand, Kakamega High School continued its winning streak by winning 4-0 against Muyala Secondary School on their home ground and will be representing Kakamega Central Sub-county in the forthcoming County KSSSA games scheduled to take place from June 18-19 in Mumias.

For Navakholo Sub-county, Chebuyusi will be the representative after it won 1-0 against Ingotse.

Kakamega County has 12 sub-counties and some nine other schools will be joining the already qualified teams.
