Kakamega County secondary school ball games postponed until further notice

Kakamega County Director of Education (CDE) has postponed the Term Two Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) championships until further notice.

In a memo signed by the CDE Kakamega County Hellen Nyang’au dated June 13, 2024 addressed to all Sub-County Directors of Education in the county and seen by Education News, revealed that the championships which were scheduled to take place from June17, 2024 have been moved to later date due to an unavoidable circumstances.

“It has been decided that the Secondary Schools Term Two games that were scheduled to take place as from June 17, 2024 to be posted to a later date due to avoidance circumstances. The new dates for the County Competitions will be communicated to you in due course.

“The purpose of this letter therefore is to request you to communicate the postponement to your schools urgently,” the memo reads in part.

The move comes just a few days following a story done by Education News revealed that Kakamega High had alleged that Musingu High had poached nine students of the football team with no signing of the transfer forms to the institution as specified by the Education Act 2013.

The KSSSA constitution 11(g) VI N/B 6 on Eligibility of participation states that: “Students transferring from one school team to another school team shall not exceed two, if more than two, then all will not be eligible to play for a period of one year.”

The county KSSSA sports which are supposed to take place in Mumias with at least 14 teams from different sub-counties participating there will be in four pools in the male’s category.

Pool B male category which has Musingu High from Kakamega South Sub-county the accused one, Chebuyusi Boys (Navakholo) and Kakamega High (Kakamega Central) is being considered as the hardest one as compared to other pools.

Pool A; has Motoni Secondary (Lukuyani), Emanini Secondary (Matungu), St Joseph’s Mumias (Mumias West), and Butere Boys (Butere).

Pool C; consists of Munyuki High (Lugari), Lwadeti DB (Matete), Lugusi (Kakamega North), and Eshibinga Secondary (Khwisero).

Pool D has Shanderema Boys from Kakamega East Sub -County which in the recent years has been performing exemplary in sports, Khaimba High (Mumias East), and St. Peter’s Mumias (Mumias West).

In the girls’ category, pool A has Muukusi Secondary (Matete), St Stephen’s Lwanda (Likuyani), Arch Bishop Njenga (Lugari), Mukumu Girls (Kakamega East).

Pool B will include Kimang’eti Girls (Kakamega North), Ahong’injo Secondary (Mumias West), Mwira Secondary (Matungu).

St Mary’s Mumias (Mumias West), Kilimo Central (Kakamega Central), Butere girls (Butere), and Sivilie Secondary (Navakholo) will compete in the county games from pool C.

Lastly, Pool D will be include teams from Musoli Secondary (Kakamega South), Mlwanda (Khwisero), and Mwitoti Secondary from Mumias East.
