Kajiado County Woman Representative Leah Sankaire on Tuesday led a major education and community support initiative in Nkaimurunya Ward, Kajiado North Constituency, aimed at improving learning conditions and supporting vulnerable learners.

Speaking during a visit to Nakeel Primary School, Sankaire said the programme seeks to keep girls in school and protect their dignity by addressing menstrual hygiene challenges that often contribute to absenteeism.

The legislator oversaw the distribution of sanitary towels to girls in Grade Six through Junior School across six learning institutions in the area. The beneficiaries included Nakeel Primary School, Ongata Rongai Junior Primary School, Ole Pasha Primary School, Arap Moi Primary School, Kiserian Primary School and Nkaimurunya Mixed Day and Boarding School.

In addition, Sankaire distributed full school uniforms to 400 Junior Secondary School students at Nakeel Primary/JS and Ongata Rongai Primary and Junior School to ease the burden on needy families and help learners remain focused on their studies.

The Woman Representative also sponsored 100 vulnerable pupils at Nakeel Primary School who had been unable to enrol in the Tap to Eat school feeding programme. She said the sponsorship would enable the learners to access meals for one month, improving concentration and classroom participation.

To address persistent water shortages at the school, Sankaire donated two 10,000-litre water tanks to enhance water storage during the rainy season.

Residents from the surrounding community also benefited from food donations distributed to parents and families during the event.

Addressing parents, teachers and learners, the legislator expressed concern over rising cases of teenage pregnancies in the region and called on parents, teachers, religious leaders and the wider community to work together to protect children and support their education.

Sankaire reaffirmed her commitment to promoting education, girls’ empowerment and community welfare through practical support programmes targeting vulnerable learners and families across Kajiado County.
