- Primary school interviews are expected to run from September 8 to 15, followed by post-primary teachers and Curriculum Support Officers from September 17 to 25.
- Candidates have been advised to prepare their original academic and professional certificates, TPAD records and other required documents ahead of the exercise.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released a roadmap for interviews for more than 34,000 teacher promotion vacancies advertised in the 2026/27 promotion exercise.
According to an internal memo, shortlisted primary school teachers will be invited through SMS to collect their interview letters between August 31 and September 11, 2026.
Interviews for various promotional positions in primary schools are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 8, and run until September 15, 2026.
For teachers in post-primary institutions and Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs), interviews will be conducted from September 17 to September 25 at county and regional levels.
The Commission advertised 34,016 promotion vacancies across 30 cadres in July, covering primary and secondary schools, Teacher Training Colleges, Special Needs Education institutions and Curriculum Support Services.
Candidates told to prepare documents
The Commission has clarified that there will be no oral interviews and that the promotion exercise is free of charge.
Teachers participating in the interviews are required to present themselves neatly and carry their original academic and professional certificates.
They are also expected to present their TPAD records for the 2023, 2024 and 2025 assessment years.
The promotion exercise will take into consideration several factors, including the length of time a teacher has served in the current grade.
Teachers who have remained in their current grades for extended periods are expected to receive additional consideration under the scoring criteria.
Teachers who have excelled in co-curricular activities at various levels will also earn additional marks.
Those currently performing administrative duties, as well as teachers who have previously served in administrative positions, are also recognised in the scoring criteria.
Higher academic qualifications are similarly taken into account, alongside age, TPAD performance, experience and other professional considerations.
More than 70,000 shortlisted
The promotion exercise follows the shortlisting of more than 70,000 teachers from over 160,000 applications received by the Commission.
The shortlisted candidates will compete for the 34,016 promotion vacancies available across primary schools, post-primary institutions and Teacher Training Colleges. Current reporting confirms that more than 70,000 candidates were shortlisted from over 160,000 applications.
TSC’s official promotion portal also confirms the broader 2026 promotion exercise and the advertised vacancies across different grades and categories.

Teachers have been advised to remain alert, prepare all the required documents and follow the official interview schedules and instructions issued by the Commission.
