Education remains one of the key priorities for leaders in Kuria West Constituency, as demonstrated when area Member of Parliament Mathias Robi presided over the issuance of bursary cheques to students from various schools across the area.
The event, held at Nyametaburo Senior School, brought together parents, teachers, students and local leaders in support of learners facing financial challenges.
Support for schools and learners
During the function, MP Mathias Robi issued funds to Nyametaburo Senior School specifically for the purchase of essential learning materials and infrastructure improvements.
He noted that supporting schools directly was necessary to create a conducive learning environment alongside assisting individual students through bursaries.
The MP said no child in Kuria West should drop out of school because of lack of school fees or basic learning resources, and pledged to continue lobbying for more resources from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The bursary cheques distributed during the event benefited students from secondary schools, colleges and universities within and outside the constituency.
Beneficiaries were drawn from all wards in Kuria West, with priority given to orphans, learners from vulnerable backgrounds and students living with special needs.
Among the schools whose students benefited are Kehancha Comprehensive School, Ikerege and Kegonga.
MP Robi urged the beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity well by remaining focused on their studies and avoiding distractions that could derail their education.
Sh70 million invested in education
Speaking during the event, MP Robi revealed that more than Sh70 million has so far been spent on supporting education projects in the constituency.
The funds have been used for bursaries, construction and renovation of classrooms, provision of learning materials and upgrading of school infrastructure.
He said the investment was aimed at ensuring every child in Kuria West accesses quality education regardless of their background.

Local leaders who attended the event praised the MP for his continued support towards education.
They noted that the bursary programme had helped reduce the number of school dropouts in the constituency and enabled many students to continue with their studies.
Teachers from Nyametaburo Senior School also expressed gratitude for the funds allocated to the institution, saying the support would help improve learning facilities and purchase textbooks.
Promise to increase bursary kitty
MP Robi pledged to increase the bursary allocation in the next financial year to benefit more students.
He also promised to follow up on ongoing school projects across the constituency to ensure timely completion.
For many parents and students, the support came as a major relief at a time when the cost of education continues to rise.
As Kuria West continues investing in education, such initiatives are expected to improve literacy levels, enhance academic performance and open up opportunities for young people.

For the beneficiaries, the bursary cheques and support extended to Nyametaburo Senior School represent more than financial aid — they offer hope and a chance to pursue education without the burden of school fees.
