The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) has officially confirmed it will admit 7,144 students who were placed at the institution through the 2026/2027 Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) exercise, even as it moved swiftly to warn the newly admitted students against a wave of admission-related scams targeting first-time university applicants.

The 2026 placement figure positions JKUAT among the ten most preferred public universities in the country. Of this number, 54 per cent opted for programmes under Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), underscoring the institution’s continued pull among students pursuing technical and scientific fields.

The confirmation, contained in a public notice released shortly after KUCCPS announced this year’s placements, congratulated the incoming students while laying out the steps that will guide them through the rest of the admission process. It comes at a time when universities across the country are grappling with an annual spike in fraud cases that prey on anxious new students and their families.

University officials cautioned prospective students against joining private social media groups or clicking on admission links circulating outside JKUAT’s recognised communication platforms. According to the institution, fraudsters typically take advantage of the admission season, when large numbers of first-time applicants are actively searching for information and are therefore more susceptible to misinformation and online scams.

“For your safety and accurate information, please rely on our official university channels only. Do not join any private groups or platforms through links that have not been shared via JKUAT’s official communication channels,” the university stated in its notice.

On the matter of admission letters, JKUAT clarified that these are not yet ready for download and urged patience among students eager to begin the enrolment process. The university said a formal communication would be issued once the letters are available, alongside clear instructions on how to access them.

“Once the admission letters are ready, we will officially communicate and guide how to download them. Please follow our official communication channels for updates,” the university said.

To manage the anticipated surge of inquiries from students and parents alike, JKUAT disclosed that it has activated several official communication channels, among them email correspondence and a dedicated WhatsApp platform. The university further revealed that it has established a dedicated customer care network, accessible through multiple platforms, specifically to handle the expected increase in admission-related queries during this period.

The institution reiterated its appeal to applicants, parents and guardians to seek admission information exclusively through its verified channels, including its customer care email, telephone line and confirmed social media accounts, as they await further updates on the release of admission letters.
