Thousands of mourners converged at Gesonso village in Kisii County for the grand sendoff of fallen Kisii National Polytechnic Chief Principal Daniel Nyariki Onywoki.
The late Nyariki passed away on January 20 at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi after a short illness.
Speaking at the funeral, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu said that the education sector and the entire Gusii community and had lost a great leader who tirelessly served with great determination, passion and unmatched zeal.

“That fallen hero lying there embodied hard work, professionalism, honesty and integrity hence being a mentor to many,” he said.
He asked the community to unite and support the development of the education sector instead of engaging in divisive politics.
Machogu reminded students that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) students’ portal had been opened and urged them to enroll to institutions of their choice while encouraging those who will miss placements to enroll to local TVET institutions.

Also present were all Kisii county leaders led by Nyaribari Masaba MP Dr. Daniel Nanduku, TVET PS Esther Muoria, and Principals and Professionals led by Kisii University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Nathan Ogechi.
