Hamisi wins second edition of Vihiga teachers sports day

Hamisi Sub-county has won the second edition of Vihiga County Teachers’ Wellness and Sports Day which was organised by the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Vihiga branch.

The competitions, which were held last Saturday April 27, 2024 at Chavakali Boys High School and graced by KUPPET National Chairman and Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba among other dignitaries, were the second one after they were inaugurated last year where Luanda Sub-county emerged position one.

The teachers competed in various fields notably football, volleyball, handball, basketball, netball, rugby, and chess; with teachers from Hamisi Sub-county this year showing exemplary performance.

Speaking during the event, KUPPET Vihiga Executive Secretary Sabala Inyeni confirmed that many Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers in the county were taking part in the competitions.

“We are excited to see JSS teachers joining us because this is where they belong. We have asked them to compete in all the disciplines available,” said Inyeni.

Milemba, who attended the closing ceremony, promised to upscale his support for the same event next year.

“We shall take over the teachers’ national soccer tournament next year and sponsor it fully,” said Milemba.

Milemba donated Ksh50,000 for the championship with other donors being Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi who gave Ksh50,000 and Janet Ominde who donated drinking water. KUPPET National Vice Chairman Julius Korir pledged Ksh100,000 for the winners.

The annual fanfare, which brings together post primary school teachers in Vihiga County under KUPPET, attracted participants from the Junior Secondary School (JSS) as well.
