The government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and strengthening the education sector, with plans underway to double teacher promotions beginning July this year.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Prof. Julius Bitok said all necessary preparations have been put in place to implement the promotions, noting that the move is part of broader efforts to motivate educators and enhance service delivery in schools across the country.
Speaking during a Thanksgiving service for Simon Kiprop Tuwei following his election as KNUT NEC 005 Representative for the Rift Valley Region, the PS emphasised the government’s continued focus on uplifting the teaching profession through targeted reforms.
The event, held in Cheplasgei in Eldoret, brought together education stakeholders, political leaders and members of the community to celebrate Tuwei’s achievement.
Prof. Bitok congratulated Tuwei on his election, expressing confidence in his leadership and ability to represent the interests of teachers in the Rift Valley region.
“I wish Mwalimu Tuwei and his entire team success as they undertake this important responsibility of serving the teaching fraternity,” he said.
At the same time, the PS highlighted key milestones achieved by the government in the education sector, including the recruitment of over 100,000 teachers, a move he said has significantly improved learning outcomes and eased the burden on existing staff.
Leaders present echoed the government’s commitment to education reforms and called for continued collaboration between stakeholders to address challenges facing the sector.
Among those in attendance were Samson Cherargei, Senator for Nandi County and Julius Rutto, Member of Parliament for Kesses Constituency, alongside officials from KEPSHA and KUPPET and other education stakeholders.
