There was excitement and emotion at Londiani Girls Secondary School after former student Captain Alice Kerubo made a surprise return to her alma mater in an extraordinary fashion — arriving by helicopter.
Captain Kerubo, who completed her secondary education at the school 15 years ago, is now a commercial pilot.
Her unexpected visit brought the school to a standstill as students and teachers gathered to welcome one of their own.
According to sources, students were attending lessons when they heard the roar of a low-flying aircraft approaching the school.
Moments later, the aircraft touched down near the school field, prompting screams, cheers and ululations as the students discovered that Captain Kerubo was on board.
The pilot later addressed the students, sharing her journey from being an ordinary student at Londiani Girls to achieving her dream of becoming a commercial pilot.
“Fifteen years ago, I sat in these same classrooms just like you. If I made it, you can make it too,” she told the visibly emotional students.
Captain Kerubo urged the girls to dream beyond their current circumstances, remain disciplined and work hard in pursuit of their goals.
Her story was particularly inspiring to students interested in aviation, an industry where women remain underrepresented in many professional roles.
