Governor Simba Arati has appointed former Keroka Technical Training Institute (KETTI) Principal Harold Ongeri as the new chairman of the Kisii County Public Service Board.

The seat remained vacant after Elijah Obebo, who had been its holder, was elevated to replace Dr Robert Monda, who had been impeached over alleged corruption.

The appointment of Ongeri has attracted different reactions from the residents. Those from the teaching fraternity saw it as a good gesture for their colleague’s appointment.

However, the youth saw it as a well-orchestrated move meant to prevent them from holding public positions. They are only remembered during political campaigns when they are used and dumped.

“The governor has made political and economic blunders that will lower his influence among the youth in his forthcoming campaigns for reelection,” said Robert Nyamwaro.

They asked governor to to consider distributing and balancing public appointments to both young and old instead of recycling people in the services.

Ongeri will join Dr Silas Ayunga, Victoria Masese, Jared Omwoyo, and Jane Nyaburo, board members, for the daily operational services in the county.

Other members who have served as chairmen of the board in Kisii County since 2013, when the inaugural devolved government was held, include the late Evans Mamboleo, former Kisii Assembly Speaker and South Mugirango MP David Kombo, and the present Kisii County Deputy Governor, Elijah Obebo.
