Former Kokwet Primary headteacher dies in New Year’s Eve road crash

The education fraternity in Kipkelion Sub‑County, Kericho County, is mourning the death of Mwalimu Daniel Esevwe Mahugi, a retired headteacher of Kokwet Primary School, who died following a road accident on December 31, 2025.

Mahugi sustained severe injuries in a crash along the Kisii-Migori Highway and was rushed to Migori Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he later succumbed while receiving treatment.

News of his passing has drawn tributes from colleagues, former pupils and parents who remember him as a disciplined, humble and dedicated educator.

Mahugi served for many years as headteacher at Kokwet Primary School, earning admiration for his unwavering commitment to academic excellence and mentorship. Those who worked with him credit his leadership with shaping generations of learners and strengthening the school’s foundations.

Community members across Kipkelion and the wider education sector have expressed grief and gratitude, describing Mahugi as a selfless teacher whose integrity and service left a lasting mark.
