- Emily Kirui Cherotich has been appointed to the National Labour Board for a three-year term, effective August 21, 2026.
- The appointment has been made under Section 6(1)(f) of the Labour Institutions Act, 2007, through a Gazette notice signed by CS Alfred Mutua.
- Kirui has brought her background in teachers’ welfare and labour relations from her time as a KNUT Kericho Branch official to her new national role.
Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kericho Branch official Emily Kirui Cherotich has been appointed a member of the National Labour Board for a three-year term.
Kirui’s appointment was announced through Gazette Notice No. 13525, issued by the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Alfred Mutua. According to the notice, the appointment was made under Section 6(1)(f) of the Labour Institutions Act, 2007.
She will serve on the National Labour Board for three years, effective August 21, 2026.
Kirui, popularly associated with Cheptigit, previously served as an official of the KNUT Kericho Branch, where she was involved in matters concerning teachers’ welfare and labour relations.

Her appointment to the National Labour Board comes at a time when issues surrounding workers’ rights, collective bargaining, employment policies and labour relations remain central to discussions in Kenya’s education sector.
The National Labour Board plays an advisory role in labour matters, including policies relating to employment, industrial relations and the welfare of workers. The appointment places Kirui in a position to contribute to discussions and policy processes affecting workers across various sectors, including the teaching profession.
