Form 4 candidate drowns hours after completing exams

A form four candidate has died after drowning in a dam in Matuu, Matungulu sub-county, Machakos County.

Speaking to Education News, Matuu sub-location Assistant Chief Raphael Musyoki confirmed the incident and reported that the student was taking pictures in the company of his four friends when tragedy struck.

Musyoki said that the boys were headed home after sitting yesterday’s KCSE exams and decided to take pictures.

“They are students at Matuu Wendano Secondary School and had just finished the day’s KCSE exams. They stopped by the dam to take pictures and enjoy themselves. Unluckily one of the boys slipped and fell into the water and drowned,” he said.

The other four called for help from neighbours and pedestrians after witnessing the incident.

“I was notified about the incident and called the police and we are trying to drain the dam and find the body, a tractor has been brought to demolish and allow water to drain,” he reported.

Musyoki warned children on holiday to stay away from large water bodies especially dams and rivers which are swelling due to ongoing rains.

By the time of reporting, the body was yet to be found.
