A fire broke out at Ainapngetuny Mixed Secondary School in Tinderet constituency, Nandi county, on Tuesday night, leaving behind significant damage to school property and raising renewed concern over a rising trend of fire incidents in learning institutions across the country.

The cause of the blaze had not been immediately established by the time emergency response teams arrived at the scene.

According to initial reports, the fire spread rapidly through sections of the school compound before being partially contained by firefighters and residents who rushed to assist.

No casualties had been reported at the time of going to press, though several classrooms and dormitory structures are believed to have been affected by the inferno.

Local administration officials together with education authorities have launched preliminary investigations to determine the origin of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
