Narok KNUT Women Representative Ann Saramei has joined teachers in marking Father’s Day with a strong message celebrating the vital role of fathers in families, schools and society.

In her message, Saramei described fathers as irreplaceable pillars whose influence shapes the moral, emotional and social foundation of communities.

“Fathers are the world. They are drivers of the home, community, children and society,” she said, emphasizing that fathers carry a deep responsibility not only as providers but also as mentors and role models.

She noted that in many communities, fathers are often the first source of guidance, especially when families and young people seek direction and wisdom.

Saramei further highlighted that fathers serve as elders and advisers, frequently being consulted on key family and community decisions.

She called for greater recognition of their contribution and urged society to support men in fulfilling their roles effectively.

Importance of men’s well-being

At the same time, she stressed the importance of fathers maintaining good health—physically, psychologically, socially and spiritually.

According to her, a healthy father is better positioned to lead and support a stable home environment.

“Fathers are pillars of strength and for them to remain strong, they must take care of their overall well-being,” she added.

The unionist used the Father’s Day platform to reflect on challenges facing men, including stress, economic pressure and health concerns, which often go unspoken.

Many teachers who spoke to Education News echoed the need for increased awareness and support systems targeting men’s mental wellness.
