Fresh from conquering Bomet County, Cheptalal Girls secondary school have shifted their focus to a bigger challenge as they seek to qualify for the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games.

The team’s remarkable journey has been guided by Coach Evans Kipkosgei, a professional volleyball player whose experience on some of Tanzania’s biggest stages is now helping shape one of Bomet’s most promising school teams.

Cheptalal Girls recently stamped their authority in the county after emerging as the 2026 Bomet county KSSSA volleyball champions, earning a place at the upcoming Rift Valley regional championships.

For Kipkosgei, the success is the latest chapter in an inspiring volleyball career that began in Chepsir, Kericho County.

The talented player first came into the spotlight during the KKK Cup in 2021, where his outstanding performances caught the attention of scouts and volleyball enthusiasts.

His impressive displays earned him an opportunity to play professional volleyball in Tanzania, a move that transformed his career.

Since then, Kipkosgei has featured for several top clubs, including NHIF Dodoma Volleyball Club, Chui Volleyball Club and Bandari Volleyball Club.

He currently plays for Tanzania Ports Authority Volleyball Club (TPA), one of Tanzania’s leading volleyball sides.

While continuing his professional career, Kipkosgei has also dedicated time to developing young talent, bringing his experience and winning mentality to school volleyball.

His influence has been evident at Cheptalal Girls, where the team has grown into a formidable force capable of competing with the best schools in the region.

With the Rift Valley regional championships scheduled for next week, Cheptalal Girls will be seeking to maintain their impressive form and secure qualification for the National Secondary School Games.

A successful regional campaign would move them a step closer to the ultimate target — a place at the FEASSSA Games, where East Africa’s top school teams battle for supremacy.
