The Kenya Nation Union of Teachers (KNUT) West Pokot branch has urged the Azimio One Kenya Coalition to stop the anti-government demonstrations as it is interfering with learning in schools across the country.
The Union led by West Pokot Knut Executive Secretary Martin Sembelo, speaking in Kapenguria on July 21, 2023, condemned the ongoing demos saying it is robbing the children of the right to study as even covering the syllabus will be a challenge.
“We want a very peaceful country.
This is not the right time to disturb the country.
As the education sector we have been badly affected by the demos,” Sembelo said.
The branch chairman Joel Partich called on President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga to manage their supporters.
“It is bad for supporters of President Ruto and Raila Odinga to fight.
Many people are being killed yet they are Kenyans.
We don’t want this. Let them sit down and listen to religious leaders and get a solution to the high cost of living and the finance act.
They should take the grievances to parliament because demos will not help,” Mr. Joel noted.
Christine Cheyech Kasheusheu, the Knut Treasure in the County called on religious leaders to pray for the country so that there can be peace to enable children to learn with no difficulty.
“Let’s love one another and stay in peace. We need our children to be in school for them to complete the syllabus.
The wrangles will make our children not go to school,” she said.
