CS Murkomen urges equal opportunities for learners as Tenwek High receives new buses

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on parents and education stakeholders to treat all children equally regardless of the schools they attend, saying every learner deserves an equal opportunity to succeed.

Speaking during the presentation of a new school bus donated through State House to Tenwek High School in Bomet County, Murkomen said parents should actively guide their children through the challenges of life and remain closely involved in their education.

The event, attended by an estimated 6,000 people, also saw leaders reaffirm the government’s commitment to improving education through infrastructure development, digital learning and increased investment in schools.

Murkomen said President William Ruto’s administration would continue investing in the education sector and revealed that the Head of State is expected to visit Bomet County soon to launch major road projects.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok Ololtuaa reiterated the government’s commitment to improving learning outcomes, announcing that 240 Junior Secondary Schools in Bomet County will receive smart boards under the government’s digital learning programme.

He urged residents to support ongoing education reforms, saying the government remains committed to strengthening learning institutions across the country.

Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion welcomed the government’s increased investment in education but called for additional resources to strengthen the sector further.

He also appealed for the recruitment of more teachers to address staffing shortages, saying adequate staffing is critical to maintaining quality education.

More support for schools

Bomet Central MP Richard Kilel thanked President Ruto for facilitating the donation of the State House school bus to Tenwek High School, describing it as a major boost to students’ academic and co-curricular activities.

He also thanked the President for allocating Sh50 million towards the construction of Bomet High School and announced that five more school buses would be delivered to schools in Bomet Central through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) within the next two weeks.

Kilel further commended the local community for supporting Bomet High School following a dormitory fire that occurred two weeks ago.

Bomet Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir thanked President Ruto for supporting education development and urged residents to continue backing the government’s education agenda.

Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Dr Eng. Festus Ng’eno said the government’s development agenda also includes creating a conducive learning environment through environmental conservation.

He urged residents to support the national programme to plant 15 billion trees.

Former Bomet Central MP Nick Salat and former Bomet East MP Bernard Bett also praised the government’s continued investment in education, saying improved school infrastructure would enhance learning opportunities for students across the county.

The event was held during Tenwek High School’s Speech and Prize-Giving Day, where two new school buses donated through State House and the NG-CDF were unveiled to strengthen student transport and support academic and co-curricular programmes.
