Scott Christian University is embarking on an ambitious plan to modernise and expand its infrastructure to accommodate expanded academic programmes.
The university started as the National Theological College of the African Inland Church in 1962 before being granted a charter to offer various degree programmes in 2012.
Speaking during the 61st graduation ceremony, which was graced by Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen as chief guest on Friday, University Vice Chancellor Rev Prof Jonathan Mwania announced that the University Council had resolved to embark on resource mobilisation targeting Sh750 million for the modernisation of the university.
A fundraising event is set for October 9 this year.
Expansion of programmes
He said the university has registered a Talent Academy and will also start offering TVET courses in a bid to expand its programmes.
The VC said the move was aimed at providing holistic education grounded in Christian values.
Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen supported the expansion agenda, saying he was appalled at the state of the infrastructure of the famous institution, which was named after Christian missionary Peter Cameron Scott.
“This is not the school I dreamt of. At the gate, I was welcomed by dust. You have a very huge reputation. However, mambo kwa ground ni tofauti,” said Murkomen.
Murkomen calls for support
He called on the Christian fraternity to help upgrade the university’s infrastructure.
“We are truly challenged as AIC members who are in leadership to walk with you so that the face of the institution matches your reputation,” said CS Murkomen.

About 250 students graduated with various degrees and diplomas in Theology, Education, Leadership and Management, ICT and Community Studies.
