The government has officially declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha.
The declaration was made through a Special Issue of The Kenya Gazette dated May 25, 2026, under Gazette Notice No. 7653 issued by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.
According to the gazette notice signed by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, the declaration was made under the Public Holidays Act.
“IT IS notified for the general information of the public that, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Wednesday, the 27th May, 2026, shall be a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha,” the notice stated.
The gazette notice further indicated that the declaration was formally issued on May 25, 2026.
“Dated the 25th May, 2026,” the notice reads.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide through prayers, charity, and family gatherings.

The public holiday will give Kenyans an opportunity to join the Muslim community in marking the religious celebration.
The Kenya Gazette Special Issue was published by the authority of the Republic of Kenya and printed by the Government Printer in Nairobi.
