A middle-aged woman is being held at Athi River police station for allegedly burning her daughters’ hands.
The incident happened at Kilili Shopping Center in Kinanie, Mavoko sub county of Machakos county.
The woman is said to have come home and found her two daughters aged six and eight who had come from school had eaten sugar.
According to area chief Josphat Isinga, the irked woman decided to punish the two by burning their hands leaving them with serious injuries.
The cries of the two girls attracted the neighbors who notified village elders.
“She works at a food kiosk in the shopping center and was enraged when she came home and found her two children had eaten sugar. She decided to burn their hands sustaining severe burns,” said the chief.
The two girls were rescued and rushed to Athi River Level Three hospital for treatment. They were later transferred to a rescue center within the county.
The woman will be arraigned in courtly today, 21st July.
The chief urged parents not to act out in anger whenever faced with such an issue. He also warned that child abuse is a crime punishable by law.
