Police in Athi River, Machakos County have launched investigations into the mysterious death of a first-year Daystar University student who died in a hostel.
Mercy Jerono Kwambai, 18, allegedly committed suicide at a hostel in the Daystar area of Athi River South on Friday.
Police officers and DCI personnel visited the scene and established that the deceased locked herself inside the toilet and committed suicide by stabbing herself on the left side of the chest using a kitchen knife.
According to the police, the body of the deceased was discovered by her fellow students who gained access by jumping over the girl’s toilet wall.
The University Security Coordinator Patrick Darizu confirmed the incident and filed a report at the police station on September 9 at 3.15 a.m.
“There was a body of a female first-year student lying in a pool of blood at the Patience West hostel washroom at Daystar University,” read the police report in part.
Her body was removed to the mortuary at Shalom Community Hospital for post-mortem examination.
