A Form Three student at Olbutyo High School in Bomet County is appealing for support to clear school fees arrears and remain in class as he pursues his dream of completing his secondary education.
Emmanuel Cheruiyot, a resident of Kelonget village in Kapsimotwa Sub-location, Bomet Township Location, Bomet Central constituency, has impressed his teachers with his determination and academic performance despite facing severe financial challenges at home.
Cheruiyot is a partial orphan and comes from a family with several siblings who have no stable source of income.
The family survives on a small piece of land, much of which is occupied by their homesteads, leaving little room for meaningful agricultural activity.
The family’s financial struggles were compounded recently when their only cow was stolen by thieves, further depriving them of an important source of livelihood.
For the past three years, Cheruiyot has frequently been sent home over unpaid school fees. Despite returning to school empty-handed on several occasions, he has remained determined to continue with his studies.

The local community has previously rallied behind him, helping him acquire a school uniform and other essential learning items.
Through various contributions, he has managed to pay about Sh25,000 towards his school fees over the last three years.
The Bomet Central National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), NGAAF and the county government have also supported him with a combined Sh35,000 during the same period.
Despite these interventions, Cheruiyot still has a school fees balance of Sh82,000. He is expected to raise a further Sh46,000 to complete his Form Four education.
A community-led online fundraising campaign is now underway, targeting Sh150,000 to clear his outstanding fees and provide a cushion for his remaining school expenses.
Those supporting the initiative say the fundraising is driven by Cheruiyot’s determination to succeed and the confidence his teachers have in his academic potential.

The campaign will culminate in a fundraising function to be held at Kelonget village, where well-wishers are expected to come together to support the student and help him remain in school.
