Chuka University rugby team, aptly named ‘Vikings,’ is eagerly awaiting with a blend of excitement and determination the start of the upcoming Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) 2023/24 season that was recently unveiled.

The Vikings find themselves in the highly competitive Nationwide Central League, where they will lock horns with formidable opponents such as Zetech Oaks, MKU Thika, Kenya Prisons, Meru RFC, Embu RFC, Kiambu RFC, and Muranga Trojans.

Head coach James Mugendi expressed his confidence in the team’s preparedness for the challenge that lies ahead.

Speaking passionately after a rigorous training session at the university grounds, Mugendi commended the talent within his squad.

He noted that the players had demonstrated the requisite hard work and discipline during their preparations.

“We are pleased with the fixtures, and based on our analysis, I can assert that my players are ready for the season. We call on the university and our fans for support,” said Mugendi.

The Vikings will kick off their campaign with an away fixture against Embu RFC on December 02.

After a rest in Game Week 2 and a blank Game Week 3, they will return to their home turf for an exciting clash against Kiambu RFC on January 13, 2024, in Game Week 4.

In Game Week 5, slated for January 20, the Vikings will embark on a journey to Meru for a showdown with Meru University.

The grand finale of the league is scheduled for March 11, where the Vikings will host Meru RFC, aiming to replicate their pre-season dominance and secure a strong finish.

As the season progresses, the top four teams from the Nationwide Central League will advance to the playoffs, scheduled to take place between March 23 and April 04, promising an exhilarating climax to what is anticipated to be a gripping rugby season.
