Bungoma County’s free Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) porridge programme has been lauded by stakeholders during a nutrition and food systems sensitization forum convened by the Sustainable Agriculture Foundation Africa under the Nutrition City Ecosystems (NICE) Project, in partnership with the County Government.
Participants described the initiative as a transformative programme that is steadily improving nutrition among ECDE learners. They challenged both the government and development partners to scale up support to ensure wider coverage and full implementation across the County.

The forum also provided an opportunity to assess progress in food and nutrition programmes across the county, identify existing gaps, and explore innovative solutions aimed at strengthening food security and enhancing economic resilience among local communities.
Stakeholders emphasized the importance of stronger partnerships, adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, and implementation of nutrition-sensitive policies to guarantee access to healthy and nutritious food for all residents.
The engagement brought together stakeholders from the agriculture, health, education, and development sectors.
